June is Pride Month, bringing with it the perfect opportunity for organizations to celebrate the progress made by the LGBTQ community and its contributions to business and society. LGBTQ Pride Month is celebrated around the world every year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, which were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
To some it’s just another month, but to me, it’s a special month that is well deserving of our attention. This month is about community and togetherness. At iProspect it’s critical we create a community for all that people feel comfortable and at home in. This brings us to our second pillar of iUnite (which we launched on Earth Day in April), Diversity & Inclusion, which are values that are at the core of our company and everything we do. It encompasses all the ways we differ as individuals and how we come together in a collaborative, respectful and impactful environment. Understanding these differences and embracing them not only benefits our company, but our clients and partners as well.
Employees shouldn’t feel as though they are “in the minority,” or invisible, at any point in the year. That’s why businesses should take a year-round approach to embracing all forms of diversity, not just this month. iProspect fosters a culture of unrelenting acceptance where employees should feel comfortable being themselves without any fear that doing so could impact their work.
Diversity promotes and encourages different perspectives and different talents. It can inspire employees to think beyond their own views and push their boundaries. A diverse culture fosters incredible talent that benefit us all and ensures everyone within the agency feels absolutely free to be who they are at all times. This focus on diversity will surely continue to strengthen our organization and all other organizations that make it a priority as well. Recognizing diversity starts with listening, and it grows as a daily commitment to creating a truly great place to work.
While June is a month of fun and celebrating each other, it’s also a critical time to get involved and learn more about the LGBTQ community. This helps us understand who we are as people and continue to build a strong and accepting society, not just within our company, but around the globe. We will be celebrating Pride Month in all of our local offices by participating in and putting on events for our employees and hearing from LGBTQ community leaders about how we can make a difference throughout the rest of the year and into 2019.
I’m so proud to work for an organization that is committed to creating an equal space for all. To our LGBTQ+ employees and the community around us: here’s to you. Celebrate this month and all that you have achieved.
