Salesforce Buys Tableau, Google Acquires Looker

The close timing of these 2 acquisitions is likely to be coincident, however it does send a strong signal to the importance of visualization/insights tools in the analytics ecosystem.

Salesforce announced on 10th Jun that it is buying the data visualization software company Tableau for $15.7 billion. This came less than a week after Google announced that it would acquire the data analytics platform startup Looker for $2.6 billion – this is Google’s third largest acquisition in its history.
