A robots.txt file is a special text file within your website’s root directory that guides search engine spiders to deter from crawling and indexing specific pages on your website. One reason a website developer may choose to include pages within a robots.txt file is because the pages should not be a landing page for search engine visitors and be accessed from other pages within a website.
Although Web page URLs are placed within a robots.txt file on purpose to keep search engines from spidering content, on occasion, Web marketers may not be aware that they are blocking keyword-rich content that could garner significant visibility for their website. As such, they may be losing opportunities to grow traffic and boost sales.
