Case Studies: Meta Data

Meta data is information that is placed within the HTML code of a Web page. It is not intended to be viewed by visitors — it is intended to be seen only by search engine spiders and browser software. Meta data is one of the factors search engine spiders use to rank websites. They look at the meta keywords tag which essentially tells spiders what the Web page is about, and they look at the meta description tag which tells spiders how the page should be described when listed by search engines. It is important to understand that not all search engines consider meta data when reviewing websites, but nevertheless, it’s important to include tags on all pages of your website for the search engines that do. Moreover, a well written meta description can increase the click-through rate of your listing from search engine results.
