The first step in every search engine optimization campaign is to build a list of keyword phrases to target for each of your Web pages. The keyword phrases you choose should clearly describe the purpose and content of your site. At the same time, you must keep in mind the different language patterns your website audience is using to find your products, services and information. As such, building a keyword list is easier said than done. However, doing the research and taking the time to uncover how your target market uses words when they search for products or services like yours, in addition to examining monthly query frequency rates of each term, will have a tremendous impact on the bottom-line results you will receive from your search engine marketing campaign.

Also important to understand, keyword optimization is not a one-time procedure — the work must continue on an on-going basis as language, terms and jargon are continually changing, as is the content of your site.
