Case Studies: Buying Domain Names

Your website’s domain (URL) name can be key to your search engine marketing strategy. Ideally, your domain name should be intuitively related to your business. There are two options that you should choose from when buying domain names and it’s up to you as to which is more important – target keyword phrases in your domain name or branded terms in your domain name. Branded terms will be easier for users to remember and capture those prospects and customers that simply type your company or product name as the Web address, assuming they will find you. This also builds brand loyalty. Some also say that having your most important keyword or keyword phrase in your domain name helps your website’s ranking in search engines on that keyword. One other advantage here is that most often when sites link to your site, they use the URL as the anchor text and one technique for boosting link popularity involves obtaining keyword-rich links on external, relevant websites. Therefore, if your domain name uses your top keyword phrase, then you are automatically getting that very important keyword-rich link.
