Dynamic Culture, Digital Innovation
By David Saakyan | Search Marketing Intern
When it comes to corporate culture legends, most of us have heard of the likes of Zappos, Southwest Airlines, and Wegmans – companies that have been made famous by quirky work environments and an unrelenting devotion to the development and satisfaction of their employees. In a B2C world, it is easy to understand how happy employees are the foundation upon which service companies build loyal customer bases and fuel long-term profitability. But what value does this strategy bring to the agency setting? iProspect’s recent AdAge award (#4 Best Place to Work in Marketing & Media) and a speaking engagement at my alma mater, Boston University, made me explore just that question.
We’ll start with the fun stuff. Whether it is a charity bake-off, the most recent corn-hole tourney, or a decorating contest that involves a 6-foot tall pirate Spongebob made entirely of post-it notes, there is always something fun and engaging going on in our office.
The big question is, how does the assembly of a 6-foot tall pirate-Spongebob lead to client satisfaction and improved profitability? The answer is friendship, teamwork, and retention. Events such as these bring our teams together, they create social bonds that extend beyond the 9-to-5, and guarantee an environment that is primed for innovation.
In the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day, these bonds transcend the social sphere, fueling cooperation and idea-sharing between employees, teams, and each of our iProspect offices. Weekly meetings bring together specialists of different devices, verticals, and of optimization in general. They serve as a training ground for those that are less knowledgeable and ensure top-notch service across the whole company by spreading best-practices and sharing new developments.
These are meetings that wouldn’t be possible or productive without the kind of engagement and personal development that is carefully cultivated by iProspect’s management and open corporate culture. Monthly career development reviews and weekly one-on-one meetings ensure that employees see a future with the company and that managers are in-tune with the needs and goals of each individual. This in turn improves retention and allows iProspect to be seen by our clients as a valued strategic partner with the in-depth industry knowledge that allows it to walk lockstep with our client’s own marketing department.
At the end of the day and as we embark upon a new year, iProspect continues to approach innovation as an organic process and understands that a dynamic culture is key to outperforming competitors in a dynamic industry.
